Our friend Jafar Hussein Last February, when me and Licia were in Nasiriyah for the courses organized in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Baghdad, a group of young students of the College of Media came to visit us and asked whether it was possible for them to shoot a documentary film on our work in Abu Tbeirah – this was to be the final examination of their study. We were, obviously, enthusiastic of the idea!

So, for four days Jafar Hussein, Husam Hamid, KirarHasoon, NarjisSaleemand HamzaMohsen followed the courses together with the representative of the SBAH, filming, posing questions, and taking interviews of the two of us. The result was, for us, a very professional short documentary, where the enthusiasm of the five young directors was to be felt at every shot! You can see this documentary at the following address: http://youtu.be/Mlx5nNGwReQ.

Now, a month ago Jafar Hussein died untimely in a car bombing in Baghdad. He was 21.

Today in the College of Arts, College of Media, I took part in the name of the entire mission at Abu Tbeirah to a very sad and touching ceremony in His memory. In the presence of the Dean of the College of Media, Dr Hadi  Felyh and of many friends of Jafar, the film was shown in the Al Maareifa Hall of the college. Many colleagues came to the ceremony, among others the good friends Said Al-Jaffar, Jasim Al-Asadi, Ali Kadhem, Dhaher Al-Bakka’, Dr Riyad Shinta, Dr Haythem Abdul Khider,  poet Haider Abdul Khider, Photographer Abu AlHusan Al Mesafir, Dr Hamid AlShatri and Amir Doshi…besides  the students of Audio-Visual Department.

In memory and in the name of Jafar the team of Abu Tbeirah has decided to offer a little sum as a scholarship in order to award the best student of the College of Media of this year. We think that this little sign of appreciation can inspire other students to go on to build a new and better Iraq following His footsteps!
