Abu Tbeirah

Today I and Vincenzo attended our first lesson on pottery with Matilde Tibuzzi at the Laboratory Lab123 (http://matildetibuzzi.blogspot.it/p/lab123.html). The purpose of the lessons will be to become familiar with the clay and then try to reproduce some vases and decorations that we find on the site of Abu Tbeirah. During my next trip to Nasiriyahn I’ll try to get some clay from the canal near the site in order to have some local material for making vessels.

Today we tried the basic techniques of pinching and coiling….
My result was quite  bad … while that of Enzo amazing! The engineers are unexpectedly better potters than archaeologists …

Oggi io e Vincenzo abbiamo fatto le nostra prima lezione di ceramica con Matilde Tibuzzi presso il Laboratorio Lab123 (http://matildetibuzzi.blogspot.it/p/lab123.html). Lo scopo delle lezioni sarà quello di prendere confidenza con l’argilla e poi di provare a riprodurre alcuni vasi e decorazioni che ritroviamo sul sito di Abu Tbeirah. Durante il viaggio a Nasiriyah proverò a prendere un po’ d’argilla dal canale vicino al sito in modo da avere del materiale locale con cui tentare di realizzare dei vasi.

Oggi abbiamo provato le tecniche di base della pizzicatura e della foggiatura a colombino….
Il mio risultato è stato pessimo… mentre quello di Enzo strepitoso! Gli ingegneri sono inaspettatamente dei vasai migliori degli archeologi…
